Vote "YES" to OTB November 8th!
OTB, which stands for off-track betting, will enable Minnesotans to
participate in televised horse racing at local off-track racing centers.
Passage of this amendment to the state's constitution is the single most
important step to the survival of the horse industry in Minnesota.
What Passage of OTB Means to Minnesota
- OTB means jobs.
- A 1991 study shows that at its peak the horse industry provided more than
7,600 jobs for Minnesotans and more than $32 million in salaries and wages.
- OTB means benefits to Minnesota's economy.
- OTB costs nothing to taxpayers. In fact, at its height, horse racing
contributed $252 million annually to the states economy. Taxes generated by
monies spent at the racetrack, on the farms and on the sale of agricultural
products and services benefit all Minnesotans.
- OTB means economic opportunities for rural Minnesota.
- OTB will benefit rural Minnesota by building a stronger breeding industry. At
one time there were more than 400 breeding or training farms in Minnesota,
representing an invest- ment of hundreds of millions of dollars in buildings
and equipment.
- OTB means the successful return of live horse racing to Minnesota.
- With an increase in the purses paid to race entrants, Minnesota
race horse owners and breeders will be able to survive
economically and once again provide jobs in horse racing..at the
track and on the horse farms. And racing fans will once again have
the opportunity to cheer on Minnesota racehorses at one of the
most attractive sport facilities in the state.
- OTB means racing will be available throughout Minnesota.
- Sophisticated teleracing systems will be totally computerized and tightly
regulated. Races from Canterbury Downs and other leading U.S. racetracks
will be available to racing fans throughout the state. Sites will be operated
by Minnesotans in the communities where they are located.
OTB benefits people in communities throughout our state!
