Official registered as
Minnesota E-Democracy, E-Democracy.Org is now the name
we use for our activities in the United States, New Zealand and United Kingdom
initiatives, our U.S. election
information directory and local committees/chapters.
In our second decade, we updated our mission
in 2006, and in 2007 we adopted a major strategic plan to prepare the foundation for more local Issues Forums. For an inside view follow our Project Blog and Projects wiki.
More Details
Minnesota E-Democracy established
in 1994 created the world's
first election-oriented web site. We sponsor election
year online partnerships to promote citizen access to election information
and interaction. We are known for hosting online
candidate debates. In 2002, we launched MyBallot.net,
a popular service that allows you to look up who is on your ballot and
your polling place location.
Our year round focus is
on the use of the Internet to improve citizen participation and real world
governance through online discussions and information and knowledge exchange. Our discussion
index will help you explore this exciting area of our Issues Forum work.
Be
sure to visit the messages on the web to get a real flavor of the value of
respectful online political conversations that are based on
geography.
Through our U.S. election information
exchange and citizen-led forum development efforts
outside of Minnesota (like the UK),
E-Democracy is now expanding based on our capacity
and grass roots support to other areas.
In 1996 we received
501.c3 non-profit
status from the IRS (final determination letter - PDF), making contributions tax-deductible. Our official Articles
of Incorporation approved by the IRS on September 25, 1996 may be
of
interest. Our Employer Identification Number is 41-1835917 and we
are registered
with the GuideStar service.
E-Democracy
is volunteer-based and sustainable at a low cost of operations.
Long-term efforts to expand activities, seek donations and grants, and
develop staff support are underway.
