Introduction from Hubert Humphrey III -
DFL Party Candidate
I want to be your Governor because I want to make Minnesota
the best place on Earth in which to live, to learn, to work and to
raise a family. For the past 16 years, as your Attorney
General, I've worked with people all across this state to make
our communities safer and protect consumers. I took on Big
Tobacco for our kids; cracked down on deadbeat parents who
refused to pay their child support; and stopped fraudulent
telemarketers from bilking our Seniors of their retirement. In
addition, my office has saved the taxpayers more than $228
million in the past two years alone -- which doesn't even
count the money from the tobacco settlement.

As your Governor, I will lead this state into the 21st century
with the assurance that our kids will have the opportunity to
succeed in a world class public education system and our
families have the opportunity to succeed by keeping more
of their own hard-earned money.

I have proposed a $1 billion permanent income tax cut and
$340 million permanent property tax cut targeted to our working
families. My income tax cut helps meet the needs of working
families with a tax cut for parents struggling to send their kids
to quality, learning-based child care; a tax cut to help families
send their kids to college; and a tax cut for families who care
for an elderly parent.

I will work to rid our families of the violence on their streets and
in their lives by cracking down on gangs and drug dealers who
threaten our streets with gun violence. I will double the Gang
Strike Force, put more cops on the street, and more
prosecutors in the courtroom.

I will fight for affordable health care for all Minnesotans,
especially our 80,000 uninsured children and our Seniors who
are struggling to pay for their prescription drugs.

I will continue to work with business, labor and environmental
leaders to make sure our environment is clean, while our
economy is growing strong.

To be successful in the 21st century, we need a growing
statewide economy, with public and private partnerships, that
produce a prepared workforce to fill good jobs with livable
wages. To help meet this goal, I've proposed a tax
credit for employers to retrain their workers -- up to
$500 per employee for two years.

I will be the Governor that leads by action, not just words. I
have a clear vision to lead Minnesota forward into the 21st
century and the experience to get the job done. My proposals
keep Minnesota's commitment to our families with
better schools, better health care, safer streets and tax cuts
for working families. By working together, we will move
Minnesota in the right direction.
