Frank Germann      Response 5

Question 5: Please describe the one issue that is the single most important reason you chose to run for office?

Taxes, specifically the four billion dollar surplus. The
Democrats and the Republicans worked together to SPEND
that surplus. There is no way you can trust them to
reduce taxes. The others have taken up the Libertarian
message of lower taxes now, and they might give you a
token tax reduction for a year or two, but a year or two
further down the line they will have the taxes back up
again. You can be sure of that. They could have very
easily given back the surplus. It was over and above the
budget, and they didn't even do that.

We Libertarians sponsored four "Give it all back Rallies"
on the capitol steps. We had up to five thousand people
at these rallies, demanding that the legislature give it
all back, and what did they do? They spent it. There
was enough surplus to give every man, woman, and child in
the state a thousand dollars back, but they spent it!
That makes me angry. It makes me very angry. I hope it
makes everyone so angry they will vote those rascals out
of office and replace them with Libertarians. If you
keep voting for Democrats and Republicans, you will keep
getting what you have been getting. Tax reduction
rhetoric and real big-time spending. Remember, it wasn't
the Democrats or Republicans who sponsored the "Give it
all back Rallies" at the State Capitol. It wasn't even
the Reform Party. It was the Libertarians. Some
Republicans and a few Reform Party candidates joined us
at the demonstrations, and we thank them very much, but
it was the Libertarians who actually sponsored the
Rallies and organized them, and this is the only reason
that you hear any kind of promises today from any
candidate to give any of it back.
