Frank Germann      Response 8

Question 8: One of the most important tasks for our governor will be putting together an effective management team to govern Minnesota. Name one person you think would make a great state commissioner, and what agency do you think they would best lead? Why?

I have a large number of people in mind that could do any of these
commissioner jobs with ease, but I hesitate to offer any names because
it would embarrass the person named. The job of commissioner is a
political plumb job, a gift for those who were politically active
during a political campaign, therefore I feel it would be best to
leave the commissioner jobs unfilled for now. This would save a
substantial amount of money, which I would return to the taxpayers.
The civil service people, the ones who do the actual work anyhow,
would have to take over without political oversight. If any problems
developed with this approach, I would fill the position with a unpaid
commissioner.

In this case, I would appoint Libertarians and those with a track
record of cutting government. I would call upon the many Libertarian
think tanks for programs that would make government smaller, more
fair, and more efficient to the taxpayers.
