John Marty      Rebuttal 6

Question 6:
Tell us why you would make the best Governor for the State of
Minnesota.  What kind of "team" would you put together if elected?
Also, what is the worst idea you have heard one of your opponents in
this race support, and why?

In your rebuttal include a response to this question:  If you face an
endorsement or primary challenge, why would you be the best candidate
for your party?   In closing, please include information on how
interested readers can contact your campaign to volunteer and get more
information.

MARTY Rebuttal 6:

Minnesotans understand that money talks.  A recent Common Cause/St.
Cloud State Poll found 88% of the public believes politicians are more
responsive to campaign contributors than to ordinary voters.

One-third of the people said they are less likely to vote because of
their belief that politicians respond to big money.  And, three-
fourths of the public believes government is run for the benefit of
big business.

People are cynical about politics, but I give them a reason to vote.

I've been unafraid to tackle powerful interests at the capitol.  The
Pioneer Press called me one of the "gutsiest" public officials.    I
have taken on the stadium lobby, the alcohol and tobacco lobby, the
insurance lobby - I've taken on the ENTIRE big money lobby,
successfully pushing government ethics laws and campaign finance
reform.

To win against a well-financed Republican who rakes in campaign
contributions from wealthy interests, a DFL candidate cannot just
reject tobacco money, take the rest of the big money, and say there is
a difference.

To win, a DFL candidate must show a clear contrast to the Republicans,
by rejecting all special interest money.  I take no PAC money, no
lobbyist money, no soft money, no mega-buck contributions, no special
interest money, period.

By rejecting the big money, I am able to say NO to big money
interests, NO to pork barrel spending and corporate welfare.  I give
priority to education, health care, jobs, and crime prevention, not
stadium subsidies for wealthy athletes.

Running without big money isn't the easy way but it's the right way.
And, my campaign is raising the money.

My commitment is to government BY the people, instead of one where a
few people can BUY the government.  I welcome your support in this
endeavor.

John Marty
